| Last
week, [Theurgic Seed] staged an amazingly ambitious [show] at the
Hult Center, somehow pulling together more than a dozen musicians,
ambient electronics, clips of what sounded like Aldous Huxley reading
from The Doors of Perception, and Jah knows what else. Hanging batik
cloths livened up the stodgy Soreng Theater, and throughout the
evening, banks of projectors continually beamed onto a giant screen
behind the players' various combinations of psychedelic images.
What an admirable production - I only wish more WOW Hall types had
been there to experience it.
If
I were an aspiring young composer looking for a place... that's
open-minded and supportive, I'd be heading to Eugene. It's a pretty
good place for listeners, too: We get to hear cutting-edge music
by some of the finest young composers and players on the rise. |
